I Assure You We’re Open!

I Assure You We’re Open!

Hello again.  Miss me?  Probably not.. moving on..

So I got a job finally, and thus had to move several hundred miles and have been without any internet for about 4 weeks, hence the lack of updates.  I managed to rack up and almost 3 digit phone bill in the meantime however, as if to make up for my lack of net access.

So what have I missed;

Geinin 2 has started, and seems to have carried on pretty much where it left off. Most of the cast return, other than the graduated Jo Eriko and the soon to be graduate Fukumoto Aina, with Yokoyama Yui and Kotani Riho taking their spots respectively. Episode two introduces us to the talents of Izuta Akari (Anchuu) team BII’s resident comedian.  It’s great to see her on the show. She’s consistently funny during team MC’s and seems to have a great awareness of how to handle herself on camera way above her experience level. Look for great things from her, if they allow her the screen time.

Cheeky Parade released their second single C.P.U.  Chikipa are the only independent group I actively pay any attention to. I came across them about 5-6 weeks after they were formed by chance while searching for information on something else.  One of their members is the younger sister of a former NMB48 member which lead me to check them out in the first place.  If you look through their YouTube channel, you can literally follow their progress right from the day they signed their contracts.  That’s why I was so proud of them achieving 3rd in daily sales at the release of their second single.  Some people don’t understand with Idols, a lot of the time it’s the journey you are invested in. You get to see them grow, fail, regroup and succeed all by themselves.  Western pop music does not have this aspect.  A group launches with huge fanfare and if they aren’t an immediate hit they get canned.  Chikpa had to tour their debut CD to prove they could sell it themselves before their record company would release an actual single for them.  I’m going to discuss C.P.U specifically in another article in the next couple weeks hopefully.

Starcraft 2 : HOTS launched and I don’t own a copy yet!  While I may have my internet, because of the swiftness of my relocation, most of my stuff including my gaming rig are still at my Dad’s house. Hopefully I can gather my stuff soon.. need to get some SC2 under way.  I did manage to get my hands on the Beta for a couple of days (Thanks to Kata at Ebi48) so I have had a go, needless to say it wasn’t enough to get a good feel for it.  I think I’m most likely going to go random when I finally get a copy. I’m never going to be Jaedong, so sticking with one race doesn’t really make a difference to me.

Prior to my move, I had been watching and playing a lot of Dota 2. So expect an article on that at some point.  I also have a truckload of invites which I’ll likely be giving away as I have no other use for them. Keep your eyes peeled either here, or on Twitter.

I finally finished the TT Phone part of Time Travelers.  Well I totally didn’t expect or want that ending. I was all sad and stuff, for the second time playing this game. Poor Mikoto, the girl just can’t catch a break (no matter which of 7 versions of her you look at.)

A shout out to a friend who has started a new blog, chronicling 365 different  movies in 365 days. Check out 365flicks I’ll get it added to my blog roll in the next few days. As a nod to his blog, I’ve used an image from today’s film, Clerks by Kevin smith as this post header.

I think that’s mostly it or at least until next time I go on an unscheduled hiatus and have to explain my whereabouts for about the 6th time or so I think it is now. I swear one day, I’ll actually be consistent with updates.

The return of Jo Eriko?

The return of Jo Eriko?

A couple of months ago, the NMB48 fandom was rocked by the sudden unexpected graduation of one of its front members, Jo Eriko.  She sighted among the reasons for her graduation, that she wanted to focus on her school work and pass the high school entrance exams. She also repeated many times via Google+, her blog and in her announcements that she felt she had let people down and couldn’t live up to their expectations.  This of course came from the immense pressure placed on her shoulders from the moment the second generation was announced.  She was singled out as the front girl from the beginning, and even called ”The next Jurina” in reference to SKE48′s wonder-kid; Matsui Jurina.  This would turn out not to be true, and that was made painfully obvious when despite being having barely debuted as a research student, she was given a solo song in an AKB48 concert. The combination of nerves, lack of experience and the fact she was never a superstar performer to begin with led to the performance being somewhat subpar, gaining her an anti-following before she even got started.

The truth is, Jo should probably never have been forced into that role.  The role she eventually grew into after all the hype died down was much more in line with who she was as a person.  She was a child and looked at the world with very much a childlike innocence and no matter what she did good or bad, she’d follow it up with her trademark grin and be immediately forgiven for everything.  This can be best exemplified by every single episode of Geinin (go watch it .. funny stuff.)  She’d try to make a joke, usually fail and get around the fact by grinning at the camera.  It was hard to dislike someone so full of enthusiasm and childlike glee.   (Photo literally says, ” Don’t look at me with that childlike grin!”)

That smile however simply hid the fact that she wasn’t dealing with the pressure, and eventually she cracked. Coupled with the pressures of school, she simply elected to throw the towel in.  I know what you’re thinking, this was two months ago, why are you only writing about this now?

Well just last week, a blog reportedly started by her was discovered.  It can be found here. Unfortunately the whole site is down for emergency maintenance as I type this, and has been for three days.  I did however manage to translate all of her posts before the site went down. It should be noted, that this is currently NOT confirmed 100%.

To my new followers, and the ones I’ve not spoken to in a while.

It’s Jo Eriko here.

I’m going to start keeping a blog from today onwards.

Please check it out if you can.

Thank you. I’ll update again later.

Eriko.

There is nothing really of note to mention in this one, it is simply just an introduction post.

Eriko here. I had school today.

When I was in NMB, I always had members around who supported me,

I also had fans who always supported too.

But now, I’m by myself. This is the path I have chosen myself, so I have no regrets.

Because I only live in Hyogo, If I ever want to see any of the members, I can just go to the theatre and meet up with them.

Also, after I’ve become a high school student, I want to re-audition for NMB so I can be with everyone again.

Therefore right now, I’m striving to do my best in my studies. So, I’m off to study!

Bye Bye

Eriko

This is where it starts to get interesting. She openly states that after she gets into high school she would like to try out for NMB48 again. She did say prior to graduating that one day she may consider re-auditioning for NMB48. In her blog, she flat out states that she would like to.

Good evening(*^^*)♪ Eriko here.

Thank you for the comments on my last blog. They made me so happy.

It’d make me really happy if you’d keep posting comments.

【☆Topic change★】

I went to school in a good mood today. It was a lot of fun speaking to all of my friends.

School is awesome.\(^^)/

I have exams coming up soon, so I’ll need to study really hard.(;´д`)!!

I know this is only short, but I’ll stop here. Bye Bye

Eriko

This is where her blog was found, and comments started to appear.  Most of them simply questioned if the blog was indeed legitimate.  A photograph with a broken link was posted, so that didn’t help either, hopefully once the site is back up, a photo confirming it will appear.

Hello (@^^@)/ Eriko here.

Thank you so much for reading and commenting on my blog.

I read all of your comments. I’d be really happy if you kept posting comments.

I’d like it if lots more people were to read my blog.

So if you’d like to share my blog with others, that’d make me really happy I think.

I went shopping with my family this morning.

I’m currently at home, thinking about starting my homework.

I’ll update again later. Bye Bye. Eriko

This was her last post before the whole blogging site went down. Previously I would have said that this was a fake, simply because Idols without representation don’t blog. If they do, it is just more personal stuff that would have to be destroyed if they gained representation. This however was blown apart by former HKT48 member Sugamoto Yuko, who used YouTube to claim her innocence in a scandal before starting up a Twitter account. This was followed by other ex members of NMB48, Ota Riona and Fujita Runa opening Twitter accounts. Both of these members like Jo, were former members of team M. It could simply be that these younger members are a lot more net-savvy than previous generations, especially with NMB48 using google+ as often as they do.  It seems now at least, former Idols do not just vanish into the nether.  Until proved otherwise, I’d like to think this is Jo’s blog.

Jo apparently was at the AKB48 theatre yesterday. Well at least according to 2ch, as much as you want to trust it as a source. This of course started up jokes that maybe she would be trying out for the AKB48 15 generation. This of course is never likely to happen, but it’s good to see that she is still in touch with people she made friends with.  Former members are not often named by current members. This can be seen especially today as today is also Jo’s birthday, 城ちゃんお誕生日おめでとうございます(Happy Birthday Jo.) The NMB48 members however did not reference her by name.  They called her names like “baby with the large smile” and although hinting at who it was, they didn’t specifically say.  Except for Momoka, but then Momoka lives by her own codes of conduct most of the time anyway.

6 weeks after vanishing, all of a sudden she’s all over the radar again.

Will she ever make a return? Did she in fact ever really go away?

NMB48 Geinin Ep1-2

NMB48 Geinin Ep1-2

While I still have a write up of my Japanese trip to do, and a few articles outstanding to complete, tonight I don’t have anything planned and so I’m going to gun through the first 5 episodes of Geinin. As odd as it may sound, being in Japan with access to a TV, did not in fact make it any easier to keep up with TV shows.  The fact these shows tend to be shown late at night, on various syndicated channels  which makes it a pain to actually sit down and watch.  Internet 1 Television 0.  So I decided that while I watch, I’m going to write down my thoughts about each episode, I usually don’t do TV reviews and probably won’t do many, but just for something different, I’m going to do this.  These will be fairly spoiler heavy, so be warned.   Continue reading

Life in the shadow.. AKB48 business model realities

Life in the shadow.. AKB48 business model realities

Two days ago, NMB48 Kenkyuusei, Hara Mizuki announced that she would be graduating to concentrate on her school work.  This is not an altogether uncommon occurrence, and would normally pass by without much mention, seeing as she wasn’t a full team member.   It did not happen this time however.. and why you ask?  Because in her announcement post she told the truth about the realities of being an under member. Continue reading
